About the artists:
Andrew Bernstein is a composer, saxophonist, and sound artist. His work for solo alto saxophone draws on the traditions of minimalism, free improvisation, and electroacoustic music, expanding the sound palette of the instrument through extended techniques and electronic manipulations. His work has taken form in compositions for acoustic and electronic instruments, generative audio/visual software, interactive installations, solo and ensemble performances, and works for theatre, film and dance. Bernstein is 1/4 of the experimental rock quartet Horse Lords and is a member of the High Zero Collective, Baltimore’s premiere experimental arts presenting organization. He has presented his work internationally and has released music on Hausu Mountain, Northern Spy, NNA Tapes, and Ehse Records.
Joo Won Park (b.1980) wants to make everyday sound beautiful and strange so that everyday becomes beautiful and strange. He performs live with toys, consumer electronics, kitchenware, vegetables, and other non-musical objects by digitally processing their sounds. He also makes pieces with field recordings, sine waves, and any other sources that he can record or synthesize. Joo Won draws inspirations from Florida swamps, Philadelphia skyscrapers, his two sons, and other soundscapes surrounding him. He has studied at Berklee College of Music and the University of Florida and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Music Technology at Wayne State University. Joo Won’s music and writings are available on ICMC DVD, Spectrum Press, MIT Press, PARMA, Visceral Media, MCSD, SEAMUS CD Series, and No Remixes labels.
Jetski is the solo project of producer and composer Ian Ostaszewski. His music covers a wide range of styles including ambient drone, sample collage, experimental pop, and harsh noise. Since 2018, he has primarily focused on sampling pre-existing songs and reinterpreting them using his own custom-built samplers designed in Max/MSP. His music aims to explore the overlap between pop and experimental styles by re-contextualizing familiar sounds and distorting them into unfamiliar, unpredictable shapes.
Primordial preludes of DEATH GRIPPOS began in 2012 when Jah (Bloody Show) & Reggie (Lieutenant Dance) became roommates. Over the next 8 years, they would collaborate in every way possible to evoke response and provoke listeners. As engineers, they have recorded a number of local projects including Messrs, Terrestrials, Wild Lemons, Dan Melchior, Torgo and DANA. In addition, they also maintained a number of solo releases as well as collaborations with local artists such as Three Scumpany, Alien Autopsies Covered in Cathair and the LSD Vending Ensemble (also known as VEND) and the Jazz/ Noise Collaborative Orchestra. JNCO, as you know, has existed as a regular monthly performance for almost 4 years running and has played host to a number of local, regional and international experimental & noise acts.
