Details:
This workshop, the first in our 2019 Science of Sound series, provided a high-level overview of the physics and mathematics of musical sound. Participants explored the physical phenomena of sound waves and how these waves are captured and interpreted by the human auditory system. They also examined how these principles help us understand how acoustic and electronic musical instruments work. Finally, they looked at some of the mathematical structures that underly traditional Western and many non-Western scales and harmonic systems.
This workshop was part of our Science of Sound workshop series, which was supported with an Arts Partnership grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
