Details:

On the evening of Friday, June 20th, we proudly presented the second performance of our artist-in-residence 2025 season: MACRO-MICRO. Our 2025 artist-in-residence program features a year-long collaboration between digital artist CG Ryan and multi-instrumentalist Gerard Cox and is made possible with generous support of the Greater Columbus Arts Council and individual donors.

About MACRO-MICRO: Concept: Gerard Cox + C.G. Ryan. Music: Coral Castles (sonic duo between Thane Evans + Michael Vawter); Trista Hill (improv harp). Visuals: Krista Faist + C.G. Ryan. Production: Mural ReMix.

MACRO-MICRO: Come see what is hidden.

MACRO-MICRO explores sonic and visual patterns, space and scale, and the tension between the human desires to understand and to be in awe of mystery. Musicians Trista Hill, Gerard Cox, and synth duo Coral Gables (Thane Evans and Michael Vawter) weave music that transports the listener to vast outer and minute inner realms, and allows space and time to question, wonder, and contemplate. C.G. RYAN will be performing live video mixing to accompany the sonic experience, projected on the Old First sanctuary’s 40-foot vaulted ceiling and walls.

For MACRO-MICRO, Ryan is joined by media artist Krista Faist in gathering and creating imagery that focuses on what we can see with what we cannot, layering scale and perceptual shifts. Digitally captured imagery plays with computer generated patterning and hand-drawn animations in a dance that invites people to enjoy a meditative poetic state.

About Coral Castles: CORAL CASTLES is a sonic collaboration between musicians Thane Evans and Michael Vawter. Their synth music transports the listener to vast outer and minute inner realms, and allows space and time to question, wonder, and contemplate.

GERARD COX is a musician and events creator, who has a long history in the Columbus improvisational music community. He is also a board member of the Fuse Factory, Electronic and Digital Arts Lab, advocating for creative education and experimentation in the live and digital music spaces.

C.G. RYAN is a media artist and scenic designer who creates playful, surreal imagery that she mixes in real time with live music to create vistas of inner and outer space, layering tangibility with the imaginary. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts: New Media from CCAD, and collaborates with musicians and directors to create transportive, immersive experiences for audiences at live events and in theatrical productions.

KRISTA FAIST is an interactive projection mapping and virtual reality artist based in Columbus, Ohio. She holds a BFA from Penn State in New Media, and an MFA from CCAD. Her background is in oil painting, computer science, and nonprofit development. She also creates intricate, colorful sculptures and encaustic paintings on plate glass. Her work explores childhood wonderment, sentimentality and liminal states of reality.
