On Saturday, September 8th, we are proud to present experimental electronic musician Tim Thorton’s (CLE) solo project Tiger Village, Keith Rankin’s (CMH) experimental electronic solo project Giant Claw, and Fatal Gaze, the duo project of Columbus-based experimental electronic/dark ambient musicians David Reed and Ty Owen. Doors 7:30pm, cover $5. BYOB, all ages.
About the performances and performers:
Since 2013, Tiger Village has been the main project of Cleveland, Ohio mainstay Tim Thornton. A palette of familiar sounds of electronic music past and homemade samples gets put through the ringer of process music. Often the music will come together in a way that proves nothing is accidental, but quickly veers back into abstraction that makes the listener question their memory of a coherent, melodic passage. A longtime employee of a local record pressing plant has exposed Thornton to many new artists over the years, prompting the start of his label Suite 309. In addition to albums by Tiger Village, the label has also released tapes by the likes of Giant Claw, Matthew Akers and Fire-Toolz. Other Tiger Village material has been released by labels including Hausu Mountain, Baked Tapes and Patient Sounds.
In the music he makes as Giant Claw, Keith Rankin distills the erratic world of 21st century internet culture into a string of increasingly strange albums issued by Orange Milk, the Ohio-based label he co-runs with fellow musician, Seth Graham. Using melodic keyboard lines, plunderphonic sampling, and incessant jump cuts, Giant Claw sketches out a jagged topography of the digital landscape. Over the last seven years, his music has incorporated everything from vintage movie synth scores to footwork and chiptune.
Fatal Gaze makes noisy dark ambient music. Fatal Gaze is Columbus, Ohio based musicians Ty Owen (Hadak Ura, Death Beef) and David Reed (Envenomist, Luasa Raelon).
