The May performance of Turner Matthews’ residency series, Interface, features Indianapolis, IN based composer, performer, and, instrument builder, Rob Funkhouser. At this event you will hear an original composition written and performed by Rob alongside Seth M Alexander, Eli Chambers, and Turner Matthews. Additionally you will hear solo sets by Rob and Turner.
Doors open at 7:30pm, performance 8pm.

About the artists:
Turner Matthews’ music often combines his invented instruments, electronics, interactive lighting/visuals, and instruments you’ve seen before (often played in ways you haven’t seen before). Turner’s performances feature the live looping of both electronic and acoustic instruments, while combining elements of experimental and popular music. Turner’s residency series, Interface, aims to explore new areas of music performance and composition by his collaborations with groups and individuals of varying musical backgrounds.
Rob Funkhouser is a composer, performer, and instrument builder who can never quite sit still. He recently received an M.M. from Butler University in Music Composition, and most recently completed confidently, but with an awkward gait for the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet. He has released projects through various labels in three different countries, and has had his music played on the radio in many places, including Australia. His current projects include music for Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park in partnership with Classical Music Indy and a new work for the Indianapolis ensemble Forward Motion.
Currently residing in Indianapolis, Indiana, Funkhouser divides his time between composing, performing, and curating shows at various venues around the city. His performances vary widely, but often take the form of solo percussion or ambient electronics. He also collaborates with a wide variety of performers and artists. Most recently he has worked with Forward Motion, Corey Denham, Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, and Classical Music Indy. His principal teachers include Dr. Michael Schelle, Dr. James Aikman, and Dr. Frank Felice. He also serves as the Operations and Education Manager at the Rhythm Discovery Center for the Percussive Arts Society.

Eli Chambers has been commissioned to compose original works for the Otterbein Wind Ensemble, ChamberBrews string quartet, shows on the Scavengers Podcasting Network, and the Ohio University Wind Symphony’s annual Ampersand New Music Festival. His most recent contribution to the Ampersand Festival, Cryptogram, was recorded in 2017 with production and engineering from University of North Texas Wind Symphony director Dennis Fisher and Mark J. Morette, owner/lead engineer of Mark Custom Recording in New York. Eli currently resides in Columbus, Ohio and is active in a broad array of musical projects.

Seth Alexander is a Columbus, Ohio native that maintains a strong performing and teaching career with the community. His latest endeavors are with the Largemouth Brass Band, Julia Neville, Maxwell Hedron, Not X Design, and Wolfmen- all Ohio-native bands that perform a wide variety of music regularly throughout the region. He teaches private music lessons in Columbus, is the Adjunct Instructor of Percussion at Muskingum University, and also accompanies dance classes for Ohio State University. When Seth is not freelancing or teaching, he can be found composing new music or forming a new collaboration.
