SUMMARY:November 2026 Frequency Fridays
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, November 6\, we are thrilled and delighted to feature hybrid media artist Paul Catanese (ORD)\, collaborative sound/Butoh performance group MouseVision (CLE)\, experimental electronic musician Mkl Anderson’s solo project DREKKA (IND)\, and experimental musician/percussionist Jake Kundu (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $10.00 prepaid\, $15 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2026-2027 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the Columbus Foundation\, and the Johnstone Fund for New Music. \nAbout the artists: \nPaul Catanese is a hybrid media artist whose work spans installation\, performance\, sound\, experimental opera\, projection\, net.art\, and printmaking. While long working with modular synthesis as a studio tool\, his recent performance practice extends these processes into live contexts with modular systems\, tape-based media\, and voice. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art\, Chicago Cultural Center\, New Museum of Contemporary Art\, Ann Arbor Film Festival\, and the International Symposium on Electronic Art. \nMouseVision is a collaborative movement/sound collective\, informed by Butoh\, Deep Listening practices\, improvisation\, and a radical present tense. MouseVision consists of Laura Swedenborg (Butoh dance)\, Kristen Ban Drake (Butoh\, sound)\, and bbob drake (sound). \nDREKKA is the solo project of experimental composer\, producer\, and audio archivist Mkl Anderson\, who has been performing and recording under this moniker 1996. Based in Bloomington\, Indiana\, his work spans dark ambient\, drone\, industrial\, and “bedroom noise folk”. He utilizes a massive personal archive of cassette tapes\, field recordings\, and found audio dating back to the mid-1980s. \nJake Kundu is an American classical percussionist dedicated to advancing contemporary percussion literature and chamber music. An active soloist and ensemble performer\, Kundu has been featured at prominent contemporary music festivals\, including the So Percussion Summer Institute\, where he performed in large-scale outdoor installations like Field of Vision at PS21 Chatham. He was also named an alternate in the highly competitive Collegiate/Open Solo Category of the Great Plains Marimba Competition. Kundu holds a Master of Music in Classical Performance from the Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from Capital University. His performance repertoire spans a diverse array of modern solo works\, including performances of J.P. Sathas’s Koolish Zein: Her Alchemy at the UNT American Percussion Seminar.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, December 4\, we are thrilled and delighted to feature modular synthesist Joe Arias’ solo project Salem Soundwaves (NY)\, experimental/jazz improv trio We Take Requests (PGH)\, web artist/composer Treya Nash (CMH)\, and a duo between experimental multi-instrumentalist/improviser Caleb Miller (CMH) and experimental electronic musician David Reed (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $10.00 prepaid\, $15 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2026-2027 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the Columbus Foundation\, and the Johnstone Fund for New Music. \nAbout the artists: \nSalem Soundwaves is a living love letter to audio hardware and experimental improvisation based in Long Island\, NY and deeply entrenched in its alternative music scene. Custom built modular synth systems live at the heart of their setup\, with an ever-morphing retinue of tape machines\, noise boxes\, and traditional instruments making appearances alongside. \nWe Take Requests is a trio comprised of Jason Belcher (electric piano / valve trombone)\, Luke Farkas (saxophones)\, and Eli Weidman (drums and percussion). \nTreya Nash is a composer and web artist. A staple of her practice is the creation of web apps designed for audience performance with cellphones. Her participatory approach extends into her acoustic music\, which invites audiences to play with physical objects. Treya is Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition at the Ohio State University.  \nThe inspiration behind the Reed/Miller duo was a mutual desire to collaborate with another musician whose sound and approach they deeply admire.  \nCaleb Miller is a musician and educator in Columbus\, OH. His work mostly focuses on eclectic-midwestern perspectives surrounding creative\, new music and projects. In addition to his personally lead projects (Gault\, pincer\, Here Here) Caleb plays\, writes and subs in many jazz-adjacent projects (Favorite Daughter\, Yumbambe\, Troy Kunkler 4tet)\, songs-oriented groups (Zack Kouns and His Insatiable Orchestra\, Carr and Company\, Confusions\, Francis Bacon Band)\, contemporary classical settings (dance accompanist\, classical pianist) and other settings (Taylor K Conrad\, solo work\, Sun Trash\, audio work\, VMR\, music videos\, album artwork). As output he is most interested in productions that show a true synthesis of perspectives\, sounds\, individuals and communities. Music and projects that strive for some form of “newness” regardless of the setting\, people or situation. Caleb also currently operates the Columbus-based recording label Very Much Recordings and teaches in the American public (!) school system. \nSome people equate David Reed’s solo project Envenomist (CMH) with science fiction film scores; others envision solitary nocturnal travels through bleak urban settings. A fundamental strength of Envenomist is that these illusory backdrops remain open to interpretation. Taking inspiration from industrial\, ambient\, and the kosmische scenes along with altered states of consciousness\, the oceanic abyss\, and deep space\, Reed has been producing desolate soundscapes under the Envenomist moniker since 2005.
