SUMMARY:Performance: Matthew Daher (DET) + MIIIM (CMH) + Throbbin Williams (CMH)
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, July 6th\, we are proud to present Detroit based drummer/composer/producer Matthew Daher\, who will be performing his electroacoustic solo set “The Wisdom to Know the Difference”. Opening for Daher is Mike Iannone’s (CMH) experimental ambient project MIIIM\, and Throbbin Williams (CMH). Additional performers TBD. Doors 7:30pm\, cover $5. BYOB\, all ages. \nAbout the performances and performers:\nInspired by the Serenity Prayer\, Matthew Daher‘s “The Wisdom To Know the Difference” is an exploration of control on both a sonic and a spiritual level. Vocals and acoustic drums processed\, blended with lush textures\, triggering other sonic events at varying degrees of randomness. A song-structured web of intended and unintended sonic consequences emerges\, inspired by artists such as Mount Eerie\, Björk\, J Dilla\, and Fiona Apple. An inquiry into the limits of control\, the ease/suffering of clarity/confusion around those limits. The ever-shifting nature of those limits. An analogy in sound for these human predicaments.” \n[MIIIIM] is a musical project based in the heart of the former (and future) glacial chasm that is Ohio. This project seeks to delicately synthesize an array of motifs: symmetry\, reggae sets\, radical politics\, harmonic and geometric progressions\, and infinity\, among others. The music consists largely of long-forgotten treasures\, hidden agendas\, minutiae\, happy accidents\, and psychedelia\, very often evoking a sense of vague familiarity–perhaps even nostalgia–despite its overtly alien topography. [MIIIIM] hopes that all is well.

SUMMARY:Performance: Jeff Young and Paul Pinto\, Patriots\, Run for Public Office on a Platform of Swift and Righteous Immigration Reform\, Lots of Jobs\, and a Healthy Environment: an Opera
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Wednesday\, July 11th we are proud to present Jeff Young and Paul Pinto\, Patriots\, Run for Public Office on a Platform of Swift and Righteous Immigration Reform\, Lots of Jobs\, and a Healthy Environment: an Opera. Opening for Young and Pinto are Gnothi Seauton (CMH) and VERSIONING (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, all ages\, BYOB. $5-$10. \nAbout the pieces and performers:\nJeffrey Young and Paul Pinto will release a digital album on Gold Bolus Recordings of their piece Jeff Young and Paul Pinto\, Patriots\, Run for Public Office on a Platform of Swift and Righteous Immigration Reform\, Lots of Jobs\, and a Healthy Environment: an Opera by Paul Pinto and Jeffrey Young. Then they’ll pack their boxes with campaign buttons\, shine their shoes\, and head to the heartland! Their nearly monthlong tour includes stops at two festivals devoted to new and experimental music\, Under The Radar Omaha in Omaha\, Nebraska\, and NMASS (New Media Art and Sound Summit) in Austin\, Texas. \nCreated in 2011 as a parody of contemporary politics and politicians\, this half-hour piece of music-theatre has become an all-too-real reflection of today’s bad behavior surrounding issues of immigration and national identity. Young and Pinto collaboratively created the text\, music\, and staging\, scoring the piece for their own voices\, violin\, percussion\, a turntable\, samples\, and lots of cardboard boxes. In …Patriots…\, instrumental music alternates with sung and spoken words\, zany and humorous topical quips alternate with personal\, pointed critiques of the political zeitgeist\, fully notated sections merge into structured musical and textual improvisations\, and tonal harmonies mix with startling\, untraditional musical effects. \nEphemeral performance art ensemble Gnôthi Seauton makes live interventions as a catharsis through collision and conflict\, with a deep desire for conspiracy\, soul-exchange\, and transformation. \nVERSIONING (formerly Sea Tone) is Danielle Milam playing different PC software and synth hardware. This music can be described as experimental electronic for fans of early 2000s laptop glitch sampling and synth noodling.

He specializes in live performance\, digital composition\, and live and studio recording and production for students majoring in both music technology and Design Arts and Technology (DAT)\, as well as coaching and facilitating all of Bellarmine’s Music Technology Ensembles. Ben is also a co-founder and producer of the Outsized Influence Music Festival\, which celebrates the Bellarmine musical community. \nCoaxing beauty from ugliness\, Habiteur works with machinery\, junk\, repurposed electronics\, tapes\, and various objects. \nNoisteria Emission is the modular synthesizer project of Rusty Skelding of Dayton\, Ohio. The sound is a blend of the bizarre and abrasive. Taking cues from the experimental synthesis of the late 60’s west coast and combining it with modern technologies and approach creates a soundscape that gives a nod to the past yet reaches into the future.
