His work encompasses collaborative and solo projects spanning video\, live projections\, animation\, and installation art. VTR’s audio projects include sound design and music for video and documentary film\, as well as numerous experimental music collaborations. His work has been presented in galleries\, as well as at music\, animation and art festivals\, both at home and abroad. \nValerie Kuehne is a cross-pollinated work of chaos. Fusing music\, performance art\, narrative\, and experimental curation\, she has been told that\, “if this music thing doesn’t work out\, she’d probably make an awesome cult leader.” (Boston Public Space). Ms. Kuehne has systematically split her time between touring the planet\, performing in as many unexpected settings as possible\, and building a community for experimental music and performance art. Her series\, The Super Coda\, is an experimental cabaret that has united electrifying performers 9 years running. \nMs. Kuehne’s work operates under principles of surprise\, and focuses on expanding all possible forms of intimacy between performer and audience. she aspires to confront absolute transparency and brutal honesty in her work\, as necessary models for performance\, especially participatory ones. She has worked as a resident artist/curator at Panoply Performance Laboratory\, Spectrum\, JACK\, Small Beast and Ange Noir. Ms. Kuehne operates a blog of music reviews and performance philosophy (www.thesupercoda.com) and frequently releases albums that blur the line between comfort and discomfort (www.dreamzoo.bandcamp.com). Ms Kuehne has performed and helped curate many festivals\, including the brooklyn experimental song carnival\, bipaf\, the mpa-b\, PAF\, the hitparaden international festival for performance kunst\, the experiMENTAL festival\, Sonic Circuits\, jazzPeru\, and the Boise Creative & Experimental music festival\, to name a few. Ms. Kuehne is also the creator/curator of Trauma Salon\, a platform for artists to collectively and individually process trauma or\, if necessary\, create it. She is an advocate for those suffering from addiction\, incessantly seeking new ways to break down stigma and misconceptions about both. She currently resides in Pittsburgh\, PA. \n“What little there was in the way of the afternoon audience\, Wasteland Jazz Unit managed to clear out half of it. The duo’s screeching walls of feedback and distortion emanating from their stacks of amplifiers and reeds was enough to crust over your eyes in dried blood. Those who remained were immediate converts.” – NPR “The extreme improv-noise of the Wasteland Jazz Unit continues to blast beyond the limits of agony explored by Borbetomagus\, who were hardly easy on the ears themselves. Like the mighty Borbeto\, the Unit takes free-jazz instrumentation (clarinet and sax) and use it to crack open the gates of hell by manipulating them using electronic signal processing and overloaded FX\, unleashing skull-scraping eruptions of high-end reed abuse and extreme skronk that threaten to send blood geysering from your eyeballs.” – Crucial Blast \nSea Tone is Danielle Milam playing different pc applications and synth hardware. This music can be described as experimental electronic for fans of early 2000s laptop glitch sampling and synth noodling.

SUMMARY:Introduction to 3D printing and modeling
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop\n[NOTE: This is a two-session workshop. Session one runs from 10am – 1pm on Saturday\, February 17th and session two runs from 10am – 1pm on Saturday\, February 24th.] \nIn this workshop\, participants will be introduced to the basics of 3D modeling and 3D printing\, and will become familiar enough with both to create a small\, simple 3D printed object utilizing Tinkercad (an intro-level online 3D modeling program which can be found at tinkercad.com)\, Cura (a “slicing” program)\, and a Lulzbot Mini. \nMore specifically\, participants will: \n\nBecome familiar with and learn how to navigate the Tinkercad interface in order to create simple 3D models\nBecome familiar with Cura\, a “slicer” program that “translates” files of 3D modeled objects for the 3D printer\nLearn about the boolean operators fundamental to 3D modeling and printing\nLearn basic 3D printing techniques and troubleshooting tips\nCreate and print one or several objects to take home\n\nNo previous experience with 3D printing or 3D modeling is required. This workshop is most suitable for adults and youth aged 10 and up. We recommend that youth ages 10-13 be accompanied by an adult. We strongly recommend that participants bring a laptop. While no special software will need to be installed\, the laptop should be wifi-enabled and have the capability to run Tinkercad. \nAbout the Instructor\nDr. Alison Colman’s first venture into new media and digital art was as an undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon University. She continued on this path as a freelance computer animator and graduate student at The Ohio State University\, where she received her MA and Ph.D. Most of her coursework was through the Advanced Computing Center for Art and Design at The Ohio State University\, where she developed a strong interest in 3D animation\, digital art\, cyberculture studies\, art criticism\, and education. She has published scholarly articles on digital art and theory in journals such as Visual Arts Research\, Studies in Art Education\, and the Journal of Social Theory in Art Education\, written artist reviews for the Tate Gallery Online and Furtherfield.com\, and has lectured on digital art and art criticism nationally and internationally. Her work has also been screened at Siggraph\, the Parsons School of Art and Design\, and the Big Muddy Film Festival. \nAfter teaching in the School of Art at Ohio University\, Athens from 2002-2007\, Dr. Colman founded the Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Arts\, where she has served as its founding director up to the present. Under her direction\, the Fuse Factory has served hundreds of new media and sound artists and experimental electronic musicians from around the U.S. and Ohio\, along with thousands of people around central Ohio\, through its performances\, exhibitions\, and workshops.

SUMMARY:March 2018 Frequency Fridays: Ava Mendoza (NYC) + Kristin Ban Drake (CLE) + Mike Shiflet (CMH) + Istvan Medgyesi (CLE)
DESCRIPTION:Our March 2018 Frequency Fridays show features experimental electric guitarist Ava Mendoza (NYC)\, performance/spoken word artist Kristin Ban Drake (CLE)\, experimental electric guitarist Mike Shiflet (CMH)\, and experimental musician Istvan Medgyesi (CLE). Date: Friday\, March 2 2018. Location: It Looks Like It’s Open (13 E. Tulane Rd.\, 43202). Admission: $10\, $15 for 2. Doors open 8pm. BYOB\, all ages. Our Frequency Fridays 2017-2018 season is supported by grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nAbout the performers:\nAva Mendoza is a Brooklyn-based guitarist\, singer\, songwriter and composer. Born in 1983\, she started performing her own music\, and as a sidewoman and collaborator in many different projects\, as soon as she was old enough to get into 18+ venues. As a guitarist\, Mendoza has received acclaim for her technique and viscerality. Her most ongoing work is as leader of experimental rock band Unnatural Ways\, and as a solo performer on guitar/voice. In any context she is committed to bringing expressivity\, energy and a wide sonic range to the music. Mendoza has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe and recorded or performed with musicians including Carla Bozulich\, Fred Frith\, Mick Barr\, Nels Cline\, Jon Irabagon\, Jamaaladeen Tacuma\, Tune-Yards\, the Violent Femmes\, Mike Watt\, and more. Recordings are available on labels Tzadik\, Weird Forest\, Clean Feed\, NotTwo\, Resipiscent\, and New Atlantis. Friendly critics have quoted: “It’s… Ava Mendoza’s deconstructing of blues and punk into brutal shredfests that’s causing a ruckus in NYC’s DIY hubs” (Brad Cohan\, Noisey.Vice). “A wizard on a semi-circle of effects pedals\, but… equally adept with FX-less technique\,” (Lars Gotrich\, NPR). She was featured as one of Guitar World‘s “10 Female Guitarists You Should Know”. \nKristen Ban Drake performs as Ann B Klorox\, a one woman band of Voice\, Vowel\, Nostril & Analog Synthesizer & other ready noisemakers categories. \nColumbus\, Ohio-based guitarist Mike Shiflet started Gameboy Records in the late 1990s\, releasing limited tapes\, 7″s\, and CD-Rs by dozens of noise and experimental artists\, including John Wiese\, Cock E.S.P.\, Lasse Marhaug\, Sudden Infant\, and Crank Sturgeon. Shiflet’s myriad recordings and performances explored harsh noise and drone\, often focusing on high frequencies. He joined violinist C. Spencer Yeh’s ensemble Burning Star Core in 2004\, appearing on several of the group’s recordings\, including Operator Dead… Post Abandoned and Papercuts Theater. Shiflet relocated to Japan in 2006\, continuing to operate Gameboy Records until 2008\, when he moved back to America. He released collaborations and splits with a number of artists\, including Aaron Dilloway\, Daniel Menche\, Keith Fullerton Whitman\, and Ryan Jewell\, and released a pair of solo albums on Type\, 2011′s Sufferers and 2012′s Merciless. He returned to Type in 2015 with his most atmospheric\, melodic album to date\, Awake\, a collaboration with Rhode Island-based High Aura’d. \nInspired by a wide range of music\, Istvan Medgyesi‘s sound echoes of an array of American musical traditions intertwined with modal explorations and occasional forays into noise and drone.
