SUMMARY:Workshop: How the Squid Sings (It Screams)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop instructor: Bhob Rainey\nWorkshop fee: $17.50 \nThis workshop will focus on sonification. In particular\, we’ll look at translating the electrical behavior of squid neurons into sound waves. We’ll see how this particular translation carries its own\, idiomatic timbres and phrasing\, and we’ll make a musical piece focusing on these qualities. For context\, we’ll examine some historical sonification techniques and talk about what goals one might be pursuing when employing sonification. \nNo previous experience in electronics\, computer programming\, or playing an instrument is required. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own headphones and laptop.
