SUMMARY:Workshop: An introductory guide to Ableton Live: What do these buttons do?
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop\nIn this workshop\, we cover the basic layout of the program\, how to use it as an instrument\, and the basics of setting up Ableton Live as a stand-alone program\, using only a mouse. Also\, in this first session\, we’ll define what you – the student – wishes to learn about. While we will cover the basics for everyone involved\, we will also talk about creating a working methodology that will make you less limited as a user of Ableton. We’ll cover the following: \n\nIntroduction to the environment\nThe basic layout of the Session view-and what you can do with it\nHow to set up Ableton for success\, or creating a simple template for beginning to work\nWhy Ableton Live is more instrument than program\nHow to start making noises using nothing but what is included\nA lesson on simple drum programming with a mouse\nLive’s undo feature\nBasic routing (look Ma\, no wires!)\nLive’s great effects section\n\nThis workshop is supported by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. Space for the workshop is being donated in-kind by the Roy G Biv gallery. \nRequired\nWorkshop attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops with Ableton Live already installed. While no previous experience with electronic music\, composition\, performance\, or Ableton Live is required\, any intermediate-level user may also find some new ways of working in the environment\, and are also welcome to participate. \nAbout the instructor\nKevin M. Kennedy\, known primarily as FBK has been producing and DJing since 1994. First receiving notoriety as The Sleep Engineer with his release on Xplor\, featured on compilations such as The Acid Junkies\, the Acid Life as Powerhouse\, and releasing Knobs and Switches as FBK\, Kevin has constantly honed and refined and re-defined his style over the last 20 years.
