SUMMARY:Workshop: 16mm Projection: Machine\, Performance & Instrument
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop\nIn this workshop\, participants will learn about the mechanics of the 16mm projector\, optical sound (how density in light is translated into sound waves) and various method of presentation. We will discuss how various contemporary artists work with this machine to manipulate sound and image\, using it as a instrument for performance. Participants will learn the basics of projection and how one can approach this machine using it in more experimental ways. \nAbout the instructor\nMargaret Rorison is filmmaker and curator from Baltimore\, MD. Her works often develop from explorations through rural and urban landscapes\, combining language\, sound and imagery to create installations\, films and live 16mm projections. Her recent films explore the visceral nature of memory and its dialogue between space and experience. She is interested in the potentials of storytelling through the use of 16mm projection and sound. \nHer work has been exhibited at Anthology Film Archives\, Ann Arbor Film Festival\, Edinburgh International Film Festival\, Images Festival\, Miami PULSE Art Fair\, Mono No Aware VI & VII\, Microscope Gallery\, The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. She currently teaches at The Maryland Institute College of Art and conducts workshops in various cities.
