SUMMARY:Summer camp session #1: Making Electronic Music
DESCRIPTION:In this four day long summer camp\, students will learn all the fundamental concepts of creating electronic music. We will talk about the fundamentals of sound and dive into sound synthesis and creation. Through creatively exploring synthesizers\, sequencers\, and filters\, we will create unique and interesting sounds that we can organize into cool projects and songs! Students will also learn about sampling (recording and editing audio) as well as effects to create sounds. We will explore listening and expand on those fundamental skills as well\, fostering deeper connections to sound/awareness\, and our own creative imagination. The week will culminate in a final project where students will creatively use these new skills to create their own musical composition! Each day camp participants will be expected to bring a laptop with Studio One Prime installed (Studio One Prime is the free version of the popular digital audio workstation Studio One). \nThe summer camp will held every day from Monday\, June 27 to Thursday\, June 30 from 9:00am to 12 noon in the Columbus Cultural Arts Center 3rd floor classroom. The camp is geared toward youth aged 12-17. Questions can be directed to Fuse Factory director Alison Colman. \nAbout the camp instructor: Owen Hopper is a composer\, sound artist\, guitarist\, computer programmer\, and improviser. He is also an Adjunct Instructor at University of Cincinnati. His work with electro-acoustic and computer music focuses on granular synthesis\, audio artifacts\, and Acoustic Ecology.
