SUMMARY:Performance: Roger C. Miller + Nyctalopia + Coastal Dives
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, October 17\, we are proud to host musician/conceptual artist Roger Clark Miller (MI)\, who will be performing his piece “Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble”\, experimental electronic music trio Nyctalopia (CMH)\, and electronic musician Casey Cooper’s solo project Coastal Dives (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm. $10 prepaid\, $15 at the door. \nAbout the artists: \nRoger Clark Miller is an American singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and conceptual artist best known for co-founding Mission of Burma and performing in Alloy Orchestra/The Anvil Orchestra. For this concert\, he will perform his “Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble”\, using three prepared lap steel guitars on legs\, a modified Stratocaster and extensive stereo looping and devices. The music will come from his recent album “Curiosity for Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble.” “Four Stars”\, Mojo Magazine\, 2025. “His skills as a guitar player and his bottomless imagination have collided in a perfect encapsulation of the two traits\, bringing forth a third strand that just can’t be imitated by anyone else\, no matter how hard anyone should try.” Pop Matters\, 2023. \nNyctalopia spontaneously composes the soundtrack to a yet-to-be imagined retro sci-fi film franchise. Hailing from Columbus\, Ohio\, they consist of Doug Leed (synths)\, Bill Stoner (cello\, effects)\, and Brian Werstler (guitar\, effects). \nCoastal Dives is the solo ambient electronic project of composer Casey J. Cooper. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s in music composition. He’s been an active member of the Columbus\, OH music community for years having performed in acts such as The Receiver\, Mt. Air\, Did’ja\, Sgt. Peppercorn’s Marathon\, and Lollipop Factory. In 2020\, CoastalDives teamed up with New Motion to release “Sleepwalk”\, an EP of minimalist piano/synth compositions. The EP ends with a 10 minute ambient synthesizer piece which served as a short film score\, premiering at MOMA in 2019. He has since teamed up with the Scandinavian label Data Airlines (Makeup & Vanity Set\, Dubmood\, Wojciech Golczewski)\, releasing his “Next Light” LP in June 2022 and his follow up album “Lineage” February 23\, 2024. CoastalDives is also a composer for film. He has composed original scores for films including feature length Night’s End (Shudder 2022) and short films All Small Bodies (2017)\, I Dream You Dream Of Me (MOMA premiere 2019 and Criterion Channel)\, and The Dunes (Hulu 2019)\, and My Last Martini (independent 2024) among others.
