SUMMARY:Performance: Interface w/ D. Turner Matthews (CMH) + Sun Trash (CMH) + Sea State (CMH)
DESCRIPTION:The February performance of Turner Matthews’ residency series\, Interface\, features Columbus based groups Sun Trash and Sea State. At this event you will hear music from both groups and collaborations each group made with Turner. \nInterface is made possible by the support of The Fuse Factory! \nDoors open at 7:30pm\, performance 8pm. \n$5. All ages\, BYOB. \nAbout the artists:\nTurner Matthews’ music often combines his invented instruments\, electronics\, interactive lighting/visuals\, and instruments you’ve seen before (often played in ways you haven’t seen before). Turner’s performances feature the live looping of both electronic and acoustic instruments\, while combining elements of experimental and popular music. Turner’s residency series\, Interface\, aims to explore new areas of music performance and composition by his collaborations with groups and individuals of varying musical backgrounds. \ndturnermatthews.com \nSun Trash is a duo project consisting of Nick Weckman (bass trombone\, clarinet\, guitar\, and electronics) and Caleb Miller (keyboards\, alto saxophone\, clarinet\, and electronics). Caleb and Nick have been performing under this name since late 2015\, mostly in the Columbus\, OH area. \nSun Trash uses loops\, horns\, and electronics to construct slowly evolving forms\, punctuated with short\, improvisatory music that explores a single idea or texture. Their work is rooted in free improvisation\, but has since branched out to incorporate elements of form as well as through-composition. \nhttps://suntrash.bandcamp.com/music \nSea State\nnoun\nThe condition of the sea’s surface at a particular place and time by reference to wind waves and swell. \nMade up of three Columbus-based instrumentalists\, Sea State centers their music around grooves affected by freely flowing motifs and improvisations. As these patterns gradually develop\, they influence and change the sonic landscape and the perception of it.
