SUMMARY:November 2025 Frequency Fridays
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, November 7th\, we are delighted to present musician/composer/instrument maker Nick Demopolous’ solo project Smomid (NYC)\, sound designer TC Cryder’s solo project Fractured Eons (OH)\, experimental electronic musician/digital artist Doug Leed (CMH)\, and improvisational musician Torin Jacob’s solo project Obsessed with Sound (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $10.00 prepaid\, $15 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2025-2026 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Columbus Foundation. \nAbout the artists: \nNick Demopoulos is a visionary musician\, composer\, and instrument inventor known for pushing the boundaries of sound and technology. As the creator of the Smomid (String Modeling Midi Device)\, Nick has redefined the possibilities of live music performance\, blending traditional instrumentation with cutting-edge innovation. With a background in jazz guitar\, sound design and electronic music\, Nick’s work spans a unique fusion of genres\, offering audiences an immersive experience that is as visually captivating as it is sonically groundbreaking. Smomid music often features glitchy and scattered beats\, sampling\, abstract textures\, ambient spaces\, and improvisation. Smomid music draws on many varied influences and creates bizarre juxtapositions with deft sonic versatility\, with heavy beats\, Gregorian Monks chanting and Taiko drum sounds all coexisting comfortably. In listening to Smomid one gets the impression that anything is possible and that all sound universes can coexist. Nick designed and created his own instruments for the purpose of facilitating live interactive\, audiovisual performances realized by using the gestures one would associate with playing an acoustic instrument. These instruments create sound\, emit light through high powered LED displays embedded in the instruments and control video animations. \nFractured Eons (TC Cryder) started his musical journey early in life with the dance music of the early 1980s that he heard played by his mother. His passion for music deepened as he discovered Industrial music and delved into the more bizarre sounds of noise and punk. After DJing for several years\, TC began making music in 2018\, eventually settling into the hypnotic sounds of techno and focusing his efforts on brilliant sound design and deep driving rhythms. His sound design focuses on the atmospheric\, calling upon nature and the ethereal layered textures that blend the synthetic with the physical universe. His performance for this show will be specifically about the intersection of his upbringing in rural Ohio\, focused on the darkness of night and the intersection of nature and the sounds of industry and machines during the night. \nObsessed with Sound is the solo project of Columbus-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Torin Jacobs. \nDoug Leed (aka Dogboy) is an extemporaneous instrumentalist and digital artist from Columbus\, OH. Having played guitar in traditional rock bands for over 30 years\, he now also plays a combo of touch pad synthesizers\, loopers\, and effects pedals to create psychedelic and experimental soundscapes. Doug has collaborated with a range of musicians and artists from around Central Ohio; current projects include The Swappers with Jeremy Wendling and Nyctalopia with Brian Werstler and Bill Stoner.
