SUMMARY:March 2026 Frequency Fridays
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, March 6th\, we are thrilled and delighted to feature the duo of trumpeter Kyle Quass (IN) and percussionist Julian Douglass (IN)\, experimental electronic musician Frederick Foxtrott (CMH)\, performance artist/multi-instrumentalist Nick Weckman (CMH)\, and guitarist LA Jenkins (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $10.00 prepaid\, $15 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2025-2026 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Columbus Foundation. \nAbout the artists: \nKyle Quass is a sound poet\, improviser and trumpet player who makes his home in Bloomington\, IN. Julian Douglas is a percussionist and composer of contemporary world music and a founding member of the world percussion ensemble Rhythm Quest. Influences include traditions from the African diaspora\, Asia\, and the Middle East\, but his focus has been on the creation of new music that seeks to honor the beauty and brilliance of the world’s traditions with an eye toward creativity and innovation \nFrederick Foxtrott is a modular synthesist and multi instrumentalist living and working in Columbus\, OH. He likes to think of his music as a collection of hyper melodic fugues that seamlessly blend danceable textures with glitched chromatic figures for a rich maximalist experience. \nPerformance artist/multi-instrumentalist Nick “Njick” Weckman has a zest for life and is excited to share a new sound that stems from his love for the avant garde as he constructs a vocal sound fortress of made up languages that integrate with dance and story-telling. \nL.A. Jenkins is a modern jazz guitarist and composer. His relaxed approach to his art is always about the music and the collaboration he forges with other like minded musicians. Originally a self-taught guitarist\, he eventually studied music composition-specifically the harmolodic approach to song composition ala Ornette Coleman. His compositional work follows in the legacy of Anthony Braxton\, Bill Frisell\, Bill Laswell\, Leroy Jenkins\, Ornette Coleman and David Torn. He wishes “to advance the ideal of artistic freedom being unhindered by cultural assumptions about the individual and enforced as limiting expectations as it relates to categories and genre.” Thus he dips his “toe” (so to speak) into many styles of creative music. L. A’s\, current interest is playing in the genre of modern jazz/free improvisation\, ambient/ experimental\, avant-garde\, and film compositions. L.A. has collaborated with percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani\, bassist Tom Abbs\, and saxophonist Michael Cary/ Gary Thompson\, drummer Ryan Jewell and multi- instruments Hasan Abdur-Razzaq to name a few notable collaborations.
