DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, March 3rd\, we are delighted to present electronics improviser/sound artist Lauren Sarah Hayes (AZ)\, experimental electronic musician Laura Feathers (NYC)\, Michael Busch’s (CLE) ambient project Auroragami\, and multimedia performance group [Inter Modal] (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $9.25 prepaid ($8 + $1.25 TicketTailor processing fee)\, $10 per ticket at the door. \nCovid protocols: All attendees are strongly encouraged wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. We will provide masks at the door. We kindly request that audience members refrain from bringing food and drinks into the space. \nSupporters of our 2022-2023 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, New Music USA\, and the Columbus Foundation. \nAbout the artists: \nLauren Sarah Hayes is a Scottish improviser and sound artist. Her music is a mix of experimental pop/live electronics/techno/noise/free improvisation and has been described as ‘voracious’ and ‘exhilarating’. She is a sculptress of sound\, manipulating\, remixing\, and bending voice\, drum machines\, analogue synths and self-built software live and physically. She is excited by what can happen in the vulnerable relationships between sound\, space\, and audience. Her shows are highly physical\, making the performance of live electronic music more engaging for audiences. Over the last decade she has developed and honed a deliberately challenging and unpredictable performance system that explores the relationships between bodies\, sound\, environments\, and technology. \nShe has been commissioned by major festivals including the London Jazz Festival\, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with a live BBC Radio 3 broadcast as part of its 2017 International Showcase\, and Sonica\, for which she gave four sold-out performances inside Hamilton Mausoleum\, Scotland\, famous for once holding the longest echo of any manmade structure. She has performed extensively across Europe and the US and The Wire described her 2016 album MANIPULATION (pan y rosas discos) as “skittering melodies and clip-clopping rhythms suggesting a mischievous intelligence emerging from this web of wires”. Her recent 2021 release Embrace (Superpang) was included in Bandcamp’s Best Experimental Music of February 2021. She is a member of the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop.  \nLaura Feathers is an experimental sound artist whose compositional process relies heavily on improvisation using synthesizers and loopers. Her improvisations can be found on SoundCloud under the name Magic Sun. Laura has performed with the Dark Circuits Bunker Orchestra whose album Ten Minutes Late with No Bus in Sight and No Taxi Either was released on Gold Bolus Recordings in 2017. \nAuroragami is an electronic musical adventure that imitates dark caverns of thoughts and dreams weaving a world of a paradise somewhere hidden in the northern regions of the world where there live a race of intelligent cephalopod like creatures named the Auroragami. These sentient beings are here to keep the cosmos in balance and nature in sync with the master plan. Michael Busch will be your interpreter and soundscape specialist on your journey. Be sure to bring an open mind. \n[Inter Modal] is an award-winning multimedia performance group that weaves a sensory-blending experience that transports audiences through words\, sound\, and visions. The quartet comprises poet Christopher B. Appel\, composer/ musician Phil Maneri\, harpist Trista Hill\, and multimedia artist CG (Christine Guillot) Ryan. Christopher B. Appel is an established presence and long term active participant in local undersound circles committed to social justice\, collective evolution and integrated creativity. His extended body of work includes consistent improvised poetry presentations at the annual WhatYouWill Free Jazz Festival\, host of the Olde Towne East Jazz Coffee House series\, and a litany of martial arts and ecstatic dance practices. His first album “SolFlower” and book “The Vagabond Chronicles” are currently in production. As a professional social worker and child of the “You n I Verse” his creed remains: Love. Service. Balance. Behold.  \nTrista Hill is a professional performing harpist\, recording artist\, harp teacher / mentor and fine artist who embraces an unconventional approach to both performance and education\, often collaborating with other creatives. Her classical\, Brazilian\, jazz\, and popular repertoire influences her own compositions inspired by nature\, color and emotion. She has performed as a soloist and with jazz improvisational\, alternative folk rock\, art pop rock groups since 1990\, toured to offer performances and creativity workshops\, and served as the U.S. representative of the internationally-known Jazz Harp Foundation. Her current focus is on improvisation in performance and recording\, working with Phil Maneri and Storm9000 on the ongoing Urban Elegance project\, and with Phil Maneri on bass and sonics on their own inimitable creations\, believing creative cross-collaboration offers ways to more deeply to listen and trust. \nPhil Maneri is a freelance musician based in Columbus Ohio.  His career spans 4 decades; leaving a performance resume that is  long and diverse. He has created many original works and projects.  In 2018 he curated a weekly improvised music series “Phil@Filament” until the pandemic shutdown early 2020.  In 2021 “Phil Maneri Presents Kaleidoscope” premiered as a monthly art series in The Vanderelli Room where an ensemble of musicians\, a group of dancers\, a video presentation artist and a painting artist improvise in collaboration with each other live in real time.  Urban Elegance is his most recent recording released in 2022 featuring Hip Hop Producer Storm 9000\, Harpist Trista Hill\, and Phil on Bass and sonic treatments. These projects plus other group performances strive to push the boundaries of cross modality collaboration. \nCG (Christine Guillot) Ryan is an award-winning multimedia artist working in collaborative performance\, music video\, multimedia installation\, and virtual and augmented reality. Her work is playfully surreal\, exploring layered reality perceptions and illusions of surfaces and boundaries. Her experimental video work has been screened internationally\, at Simultan XV in Timisoara\, Romania and at PatchLab 2020 in Krakow\, Poland. CG has performed at The Fuse Factory with the experimental free jazz trio HAAS / RAZZAQ / WELDON in 2019 and with Caleb Miller’s Octet in 2022. During the pandemic\, CG performed virtually at Vidicon 2020 and at Live Vids for Covid at The Fuse Factory 2021. She is a member of Mural Remix\, a projection mapping performance group based in Columbus\, Ohio\, and leads mixed media workshops focusing on joyful art-making exploration and overcoming creative blocks.
