SUMMARY:March Frequency Fridays: Lesley Flanagan + onewayness + Peter & Jessica Speer + Tone Elevator
DESCRIPTION:Our March 2014 Frequency Fridays show features experimental electronic musician Lesley Flanagan (NYC)\, experimental electronic musician onewayness (PA)\, experimental music duo Jessica & Peter Speer (CHI)\, and experimental electronica trio Tone Elevator (CMH). Date: Friday\, March 7\, 2014. Location: Wild Goose Creative (2491 Summit St. 43202). Admission: $10\, $15 for 2. Doors open 8pm. Our Frequency Fridays 2013-2014 season is supported by a grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council. \nAbout the performers:\nLesley Flanagan is an experimental electronic musician living in New York City. Inspired by the physicality of sound\, she builds her own instruments using minimal electronics\, microphones and speakers. Performing these instruments alongside traditional instrumentation that often includes her own voice\, she creates a kind of physical electronic music that embraces both the transparency and residue of process — sculpting sound from a pallet of noise and subtle imperfections. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals internationally\, including Sonar (Barcelona)\, The Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park (Chicago)\, the Guggenheim Museum (New York)\, ISSUE Project Room (Brooklyn)\, The Stone (New York)\, TransitioMX (Mexico City)\, CMKY Festival (Boulder)\, the Roskilde Museum of Contemporary Art (Denmark) and KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. \nThe Speers are a husband/wife experimental music duo\, currently based out of Chicago. The group began as a guitar/bass feedback project\, creating spontaneous compositions of shifting timbres and overwhelming volume. More recently\, the Speers (either solo\, as a duo or in any of the many groups the perform in) have also performed with their collection of library LPs and modular synthesizers\, utilizing live sampling and signal processing to find the hypnotic patterns hidden in ordinary sounds. \nonewayness is Adam Holquist\, an experimental electronic musician from Erie\, Pennsylvania. He uses hardware and software synths\, spoken word and field recordings\, and a variety of acoustic and electric instruments to create atmospheric compositions which draw influence from vintage Berlin-school electronic music\, minimalism\, post-rock\, and contemporary electronic ‘listening music’. \nTone Elevator (Kaswan Crossfield\, Adam McKinley\, Dennys Luckydog) is a semi-regular\, free-form\, cathartic noise event improvised and captured live using an ever changing arsenal of instruments\, machines\, and gadgets. They perform with older and newer synthesizers\, samples and electric guitar.
