DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, June 6th\, we are delighted to present experimental electronic musician Allan Pichardo’s solo project My Love Mhz (PDX)\, experimental electronic musician Hal McGee (FL)\, Chris Phinney and Jeff Chenault’s noise project Skull Vacuum (CMH/MEM)\, and noise musician/circuit bender/artist Michael Hancock (CVG). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $9.25 prepaid\, $10 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2024-2025 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Columbus Foundation.  \nAbout the artists: \nPerforming under the name My Love MHz\, Allan Pichardo creates hypnotic and groove-driven ambient music through the expressive use of analog synthesizers\, loopers\, and live sequencing. His layered\, meditative soundscapes seamlessly blend evolving drones and improvisational rhythms\, balancing tranquil textures with dynamic\, groove-oriented percussion. His latest album\, Polychord Drone\, exemplifies this approach—shifting fluidly between deeply immersive atmospheres and energetic\, improvised drum grooves. \nHal McGee is an American experimental artist and producer who has been active since 1981. With Debbie Jaffe\, McGee operated the Cause And Effect cassette label and distributor in Indianapolis\, Indiana. In the mid-1980’s\, McGee recorded works as a member of Viscera\, solo as Dog As Master\, and in collaboration with If\, Bwana and JABON. McGee moved to Florida in 1988\, where he operated the Electronic Cottage label out of Gainesville\, FL\, simultaneously with an Electronic Cottage Magazine into the 1990’s. This was restarted as an online zine and community in April 2018. In the mid to late 1990’s\, McGee released dozens of cassettes of homemade experimental music\, solo and in collaboration with Jeph Jerman\, Brian Noring (EHI)\, Big City Orchestra\, Emil Hagstrom (Cock E.S.P.)\, Charles Rice Goff III and others. He also produced a series of “Tape Heads” cassette compilations on his own HalTapes label. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s Hal McGee started releasing homemade CDr albums. During this time he collaborated heavily with Brian Noring of the FDR Tapes\, in person and via mail collaboration\, and with his long-time partner Chris Phinney. In 2006\, with the encouragement of Andrew Chadwick and Christopher Miller (2)\, McGee began performing live for the first time since 1987\, joining the ranks of Florida’s live noise/experimental music scene. From 2014 to 2015 Hal operated a new label\, Kassette Kult Tapes\, and has contributed to Exit (16). \nSkull Vacuum is the duo of long-time collaborators Chris Phinney (Memphis\, TN) and Jeff Chenault (Columbus\, OH). Both are 30+ year veterans of the homemade music cassette culture underground\, with Chris having run the Harsh Reality Music tapes label and Jeff with the I.T.N. label\, which morphed into the Exoteque Music label. While Jeff and Chris have known each other since 1986 and have recorded four albums together\, Skull Vacuum is their latest effort. Their first release Burn Sees Dark was released on CD by Exoteque Music in 2020. \nMichael Hancock has been active in the Cincinnati art and music community since moving there in 1981 to attend the Cincinnati Art Academy. He has played experimental improv with a number of bands (Heart of Palm\, Mystery Mary)\, duos (French Crips\, Silver Cord)\, in addition to performing solo. He has always made art and music\, and eventually found a way to combine the two to make circuit bent assemblages. Chance and kismet has always been a guiding force in his work\, leaning heavily on intuition.
