DESCRIPTION:On the evening of Friday\, June 14th\, we are delighted to present composer/improviser/multi-instrumentalist Shoko Nagai (NYC)\, interdisciplinary artist Jeremy Bible (OH)\, experimental musician/composer Michael Thomas Jackson (NC)\, and dark ambient musician Jeff Chenault’s solo project Central Inhabitants (CMH). Doors 7:30pm\, show begins at 8:00pm sharp. $9.25 prepaid\, $10 at the door. \nSupporters of our 2023-2024 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Columbus Foundation. \nAbout the artists: \nShoko Nagai is a versatile musical artist who improvises and performs with world-renowned musicians on piano and accordion and composes original scores for films and live performances. As a teenager in her native Japan\, Nagai was trained on Yamaha’s electronic organ\, the “Electone\,” to perform popular music. Since moving to the U.S. from Japan and studying classical\, jazz music\, and compositions at Berklee\, she has adapted her mastery of the keyboard to prepared piano\, accordions\, and other keyboard instruments\, often inspired by the minimalist approach of composer Toru Takemitsu. Whether she is performing Klezmer\, Balkan or experimental music\, Nagai is a charismatic presence onstage\, who hypnotizes audiences with her intense focus and virtuoso sound. \nJeremy Bible is a multiple award winning American interdisciplinary artist focused on the intersection of sound and light. Taking cues from his background in field recording and photography\, his work occupies a shared space between multi-channel audio-visual installation and compositional practice. Utilizing acousmatic sonic diffusion techniques\, Bible strives to construct an environmental experience that is at turns profoundly sensory and beautifully surreal. \nMichael Thomas Jackson (1969) is a composer\, performer\, and recording artist working in the field of experimental music for over 30 years. \nJeff (Central) Chenault aka/ Central Inhabitants has been involved in the Columbus electronic music scene since 1983. Jeff’s current audio projects include Circuitry Room with former 10-Speed band mate Andy Izold along with longtime friend and collaborator Dan Rockwell. He is also working with French theremin player Jimmy Virani and percussionist extraordinaire Dave Cohen as The Escargonauts.
