DESCRIPTION:We are proud to present Jonas Reinhardt’s newest and perhaps most ambitious project\, Ganymede\, which debuted in early 2014 on the Oakland\, California-based Constellation Tatsu label. Both a full-length album and an experimental film in six connected parts (shot by different Brooklyn-based directors on 16mm)\, Ganymede is set on the solar system’s largest moon. This film imagines unknown extra-terrestrial life forms engaged in ritualistic aquatic dance beneath a sky of ice. Date: Thursday\, October 16 2014. Location: It Looks Like It’s Open (13 E. Tulane Av.\, 43202). Admission: $7\, $10 for 2. Doors open 7pm. \nAbout Jonas Reinhardt: Jonas Reinhardt’s fascination with sci-fi\, ecstatic reveries\, the mechanizations of synthesizers\, and the links between music and visual art also comes through in earlier releases on Kranky\, Not Not Fun\, Great Pop Supplement and 100% Silk. Along with regular live sets at clubs in New York and elsewhere around the world\, the Brooklyn-based artist has featured work at the Tate Modern\, MUTEK\, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and SF MOMA. \nAbout Samuel Hoar: A self-confessed hack\, who jokes that he was born with “4 thumbs and a finger on each hand”\, Samuel Hoar makes things with whatever he can get his hands on because otherwise he would go insane. There is some speculation that this goal is a moot point. He embraces digital technology as an art making tool primarily because of its free accessibility and the ever-present “undo” function. He is interested in platforms that utilize technology’s seductive power to contradict popular conceptions of art because they are boring and dangerous and to undermine the idea that creativity is something possessed by “others”.
