SUMMARY:In-person workshop: Creating music applications in Max 8
DESCRIPTION:Max 8 (formerly Max MSP) is a flexible space to create your own interactive software. It provides an intuitive visual development platform designed for sound and visual media artists. These workshops are for beginners and intermediate Max users. In the workshops\, participants will take part in a hands-on walkthrough of all of phases of media software creation. We will be designing and developing a music application called “Chordle” which is based on the popular online word game “Wordle”. \nThrough this process\, participants will learn how to create requirements\, design functionality\, and build the code using Max’s intuitive graphical\, object-oriented user interface. By the end of the sessions\, participants will have a fully operational application which they have helped create\, as well as the source code to use as a template for future projects. \nNo previous programming experience is required\, but familiarity with common mathematical and software concepts will be helpful. Partcipants are expected to bring their own PC or Mac laptop\, as well as personal headphones to connect to their computers. All software and media files will be provided by the instructor. \nSession 1 date and time (ET): Thursday\, May 19\, 7:00pm – 10:00pm\nSession 2 date and time (ET): Thursday\, May 26\, 7:00pm – 10:00pm\nBoth sessions will take place in the Cultural Arts Center 3rd floor classroom \nAbout the instructor: Allan Dudek holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Ohio State and a Masters in Music Performance from Wichita State University. He has taught music and music technology courses at Ohio State\, University of South Dakota\, Western Carolina University\, and Citrus College in Los Angeles. He has been a consultant to music technology companies Kawai and Kurzweil Music Systems\, as well as to the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). He currently develops MIDI and Audio software for PDi Media\, and writes and records electronic music compositions using his own and other creative software and hardware tools.
