Ignition 2.0: Conversations
April 18-19, 2009
The Fuse Factory entered the local Columbus scene by acting as a catalyst to bring together people and media from the arts, technologies, and the sciences. After the initial Convergence of minds, the ideas started crossing back and forth, pulling from the strengths of each field, and each individual, and leading to new pathways—new means of expression. We are now in the stages of conversation where our members and members of the community can come together and add to this dialogue. The works in the Second Annual Fuse Factory Exhibition, Ignition 2.0, were not only based on a theme of conversation, but the works stemmed from conversations, and they created jumping points for the next conversations and the new directions.
For its second annual exhibition, the Fuse Factory showcased several thought-provoking artistic pieces and performances that celebrated the expression of conversation.
Artwork for Ignition 2.0 included film, video, sculpture, digital images, social networking, robotics, experimental sound, performance, and interactive pieces. Notable works among these were Thomas Winningham’s data-driven mapping works, Jennifer Cooke’s interactive glass and robotic sculptures, and Sean McHenry’s videos – all capped off with a live performance by Tone Elevator, an electronic, synthesizer-based trio. This exhibition was held at Junctionview Studios in Grandview on Friday and Saturday evenings as well as Sunday afternoon. Local vendors were also part of the conversation, gratifying consumption with tasty Rad Dog, Liberté Crêpes, and Bono Pizza.
Ignition 2.0 was an exciting and intriguing event that drew large crowds to see, discuss, and participate in the work. The atmosphere was so full and active (and glowing with LEDs) that each attendee was simultaneously viewer and participant in the spectacle. The Fuse Factory was honored to provide another opportunity for the community to present passionate digital artists’ innovative ideas for a technologically driven society.
