About the performers:

Born in Lima, Peru, Maria Chávez is known as an abstract turntablist, sound artist and DJ. Accidents, coincidence and failures are themes that unite her sound sculptures, installations and other works with her solo turntable performance practice.

Detroit Bureau of Sound pays respect to the endlessly vibrant history of electronic music in Detroit, and innovates upon that style with a diverse body of influences – from classical avant garde, to minimalist, to romantic and baroque musics from the 18th and 17th Centuries. They are a 5-piece techno ensemble, comprised of musicians from the Detroit Symphony, Michigan Opera Theatre, and freelancers in DIY music, production, and video – a mixture not to be messed with.

Aaron Michael Butler is a percussionist/composer currently based in Athens, OH. He regularly presents concerts of contemporary solo and chamber music, and has been active in the creation of new works through commissioning composers of his generation. Recent performance highlights include the 2013 Athens International Film Festival, 2012/14 Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, the 2014 Ohio University World Music and Dance Festival with marimbist Pei-Ching Wu, a performance with Luciano Chessa’s Orchestra of Futurist Noise Intoners in 2015, and the 2016 Nelsonville Music Festival. In 2010 Aaron founded the NOBROW.collective; in conjunction with the Athens International Film Festival NOBROW has commissioned Deep Earth – a large-scale, multimedia work – from composer Matthew Burtner which was premiered in April 2014.

galen tipton is a queer nonbinary artist currently based out of Columbus, Ohio. Their work explores relationships between the assumed-to-be “natural” and the “unnatural,” queerness and identity, ethical utopias and eco futurism, the repurposing of waste and excess, as well as the nuances of intimacy between things living and not living. Their work is often childish and triumphant, embracing minimalism and maximalism simultaneously— always with a strong sense of play.
