On Friday, July 6th, we are proud to present Detroit based drummer/composer/producer Matthew Daher, who will be performing his electroacoustic solo set “The Wisdom to Know the Difference”. Opening for Daher is Mike Iannone’s (CMH) experimental ambient project MIIIM, and Throbbin Williams (CMH). Additional performers TBD. Doors 7:30pm, cover $5. BYOB, all ages.

About the performances and performers:

Inspired by the Serenity Prayer, Matthew Daher‘s “The Wisdom To Know the Difference” is an exploration of control on both a sonic and a spiritual level. Vocals and acoustic drums processed, blended with lush textures, triggering other sonic events at varying degrees of randomness. A song-structured web of intended and unintended sonic consequences emerges, inspired by artists such as Mount Eerie, Björk, J Dilla, and Fiona Apple. An inquiry into the limits of control, the ease/suffering of clarity/confusion around those limits. The ever-shifting nature of those limits. An analogy in sound for these human predicaments.”

[MIIIIM] is a musical project based in the heart of the former (and future) glacial chasm that is Ohio. This project seeks to delicately synthesize an array of motifs: symmetry, reggae sets, radical politics, harmonic and geometric progressions, and infinity, among others. The music consists largely of long-forgotten treasures, hidden agendas, minutiae, happy accidents, and psychedelia, very often evoking a sense of vague familiarity–perhaps even nostalgia–despite its overtly alien topography. [MIIIIM] hopes that all is well.
