About the performances and performers:

Inspired by the Serenity Prayer, Matthew Daher‘s “The Wisdom To Know the Difference” is an exploration of control on both a sonic and a spiritual level. Using contact mics on each drum in my kit, a headset mic, and SPD SX sampler, and Ableton on my laptop, my vocals and improvisation on the drums are effected, blended with lush textures, and trigger other sonic events at varying degrees of randomness. A song-structured web of intended and unintended sonic consequences emerges, inspired by artists such as Mount Eerie, Björk, J Dilla, and Fiona Apple. This music is an inquiry into the limits of control, the ease/suffering that arise in clarity/confusion around those limits and the ever-shifting nature of those limits. It’s an analogy in sound for the human predicament that the Serenity Prayer illuminates and interrogates.
