On Friday, August 10th, we are proud to present New Orleans based spoken word/experimental sound/free improvisation duo Justin Greene and Elizabeth Theriot, as well as experimental musician/performance artist Adam Buffington (CMH) and avant-jazz trio Kinsmen and Strangers (NYC). Doors 7:30pm, cover $5-$10. BYOB, all ages.

About the performances and performers:

Greene and Theriot’s duo project explores the intersections between spoken word, experimental sound, and free improvisation. They seek to circumvent the traditional relationships associated with their mediums (poetry and percussion). Elizabeth uses a variety of her written works, found texts re: hysteria and plants, and improvised material based on her experiences. Greene uses drums as amplifiers for a variety of objects and primarily active sounds through means other than striking, such as gravity or friction. Their sets tend to exist between intimate, sustained, timbral explorations and strongly juxtaposing textures.

Adam Buffington is a composer and performer exploring the experiential effects of glacial physical movement and gesture in combination with quiet, delicate noise and prolonged silences. His work has been presented at such venues as Hartford Art School, ROY G BIV Gallery (Columbus), Ely Center of Contemporary Art (New Haven), Real Art Ways (Hartford), 400 West Rich (Columbus), Mengi (Reykjavik), and Reykjavik Art Museum – Kjarvalsstaðir, amongst others. He has collaborated with such composers and performers as Zach Rowden, Trevor Saint, Henry Birdsy, Matt Sargent, and Robert Carl.
