About the performers:

Tim Feeney and Vic Rawlings have performed as a duo since 2005. Their music explores an unpredictable relationship with making sounds, achieved by elaborate preparation of acoustic soundboxes, such as drums or cello, and expanded via original electronic instruments, ranging from naked circuitboards to amplified kitchen objects. They focus on the metamusical potential of unstable sounds and silences, exploring austere combinations of sound and the otherworldly ripple effects that pulse through a silent space or alert ears. The group has toured throughout the Eastern United States, and released its first CD, In Six Parts, on the Sedimental label in fall 2007.

Anna Friz is a Canadian sound and radio artist who specializes in multi-channel transmission systems for installation, performance, and broadcast, where radio is the source, subject and medium of the work. She also creates dynamic, atmospheric works for theatre, dance, film, and solo performance that reflect upon public media culture or to reveal interior landscapes. She favours instruments that breathe and oscillate; employing voice, accordion, harmonica, theremin, radio systems and interfrequency noise, ambient field recordings, and live electronics to conjure unusual sonic spaces. Anna has performed and exhibited widely across North America, South America, and Europe, and her radio art/works have been heard on the airwaves of more than 20 countries. Anna is a Wavefarm/ free103point9 transmission artist.

Al Margolis has performed and recorded under the name If, Bwana since 1984, making music that has swung between fairly spontaneous studio constructions and more process-oriented composition. He is known as an activist of the 1980s American cassette underground through his cassette label Sound of Pig Music, and is the co-founder of experimental music label Pogus Productions. Margolis is label manager for Deep Listening and XI Records; plays bass guitar in the legendary punk/post-punk band Styrenes; and continues his work as If, Bwana. He has recorded and/or performed with Pauline Oliveros, Ione, Joan Osborne, Monique Buzzarté, Katherine Liberovskaya, Adam Bohman, Ellen Christi, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jane Scarpantoni, Ulrich Krieger, David First, and Dave Prescott, among others.

Tom Hamilton has composed and performed electronic music for over 40 years, and his work with electronic music originated in the late-60s era of analog synthesis. Hamilton was a 2005 Fellow of the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, participating in a residency at the foundation’s center in Umbria. Hamilton’s performing and recording colleagues have included Peter Zummo, Bruce Gremo, Karlheinz Essl, Bruce Arnold, Rich O’Donnell, Thomas Buckner, Al Margolis, id m theft able and Richard Lerman. Hamilton has released 15 CDs of his music; his CD London Fix received an award in the Prix Ars Electronica, and a 2 CD set of his electronic music of the 1970s was named one of The Wire’s Top 50 Reissues of 2010. Hamilton was the co-director of the 2004 Sounds Like Now festival, and he co-produced the Cooler in the Shade/Warmer by the Stove new music series for 14 years. Since 1990, Hamilton has been a member of composer Robert Ashley’s touring opera ensemble, performing sound processing and mixing in both recordings and concerts. His audio production can be found in over 60 CD releases of new and experimental music.

Brett Burleson has performed and recorded in a diverse array of musical circumstances. He has played with jazz groups that range from big band to bebop to avant-garde free improvisation as well as rock, pop and blues bands. Standout performance experiences include over a dozen shows in 2008 and 2009 with Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Michelle Shocked and nightly performances for 6 months with an R&B group in Tenerife, Spain in 1999. He has performed in jazz clubs and festivals throughout the United States and continues to be an active member of the Central Ohio music community.

A solo drummer from Columbus, Ohio, Ryan Jewell is a true master of inspirational improvisation, conjuring a sound that encompasses the worlds of free-jazz, electroacoustic composition and far-out noise from a drum kit, an oscillator and a selection of bowed and wind instruments and accessories.

Worm Man is an ongoing project of Columbus artist Ryan Agnew, featuring a human-sized earthworm suit. Ryan has performed Worm Man since 2007 in a variety of settings such as a parking lot, auditorium, sheep pasture and town square. Slowly inching along the ground and gradually crawling to stand up again, Worm Man reflects dreamlike associations of mind and body, nature and culture.
