Automaton II November 14th @ BoMA
The Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Arts Lab is proud to present AUTOMATON II, a fundraiser featuring interactive technology, dance, performance art, and video, to take place Saturday, November 14th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at BoMA, Columbus’ Premiere Event Venue. The event features German choreographer Robert Wechsler, the VICKi Project developed by OSU dance technologist Julie Cruse, and experimental music group Tone Elevator. Videos and films created by central Ohio artists and filmmakers will also be featured.
Headlining AUTOMATON II is Robert Wechsler, artistic director of Palindrome, an intermedia performance group based in Germany and New York City. Palindrome is recognized for its use of bio-sensors and motion tracking technology, which enables dancers to control music, sound, and video and lighting projections through their movements. Robert will be performing a solo piece titled “7 memories”, along with a yet-to-be-named group piece. Both pieces will feature the music of Spanish composer Pablo Palacio. In addition to his performances, he will also demonstrate, via direct audience participation, his motion tracking choreographic system.
Joining Weschler is the VICKi Project and Columbus’ own Tone Elevator. The VICKi Project is being developed by Julie Cruse, a member of the Ohio State Unversity Department of Dance. VICKi is a computer application that combines interactive media with real-time dance performance, game design, and play in a holistic education environment in order to increase participation in dance, broaden the definition of dance, and increase the sustainability of dance in society. Tone Elevator is an experimental/industrial music group based in Columbus. Their influences include the German avant-garde industrial band Faust.
The event, which will be held at the BoMA, Columbus’ Premiere Event Venue, begins at 7:00pm and runs until 10:00pm. Tickets can be pre-purchased below, at $15 for the general public, $10 for students. Tickets are $20 at the door. The event is suitable for all ages.
