Intro to CSS (repeat)

CSS is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML. Workshop participants will be led through the process of modifying an existing HTML document using CSS. This workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Overview: What is styling, and what is a cascade?
  • Writing CSS rules
  • IDs and classes
  • Font properties
  • Box properties
  • Positioning
  • Workshop participants are strongly encouraged to bring a wireless-enabled laptop with a text editor of your choice (recommended editors include Smultron or Coda for the Mac or Notepad++ for the PC). They are also encouraged to email the instructor with any questions regarding the session’s content prior to the workshop. There are five PC laptops available for participants who do not have one.

    About the instructor: Alison is the Founder and Executive Director of The Fuse Factory. She has worked with new media as an artist since 1990, and she has taught new media to teens and adults for nearly a dozen years.
