Intro to WordPress (FULL)

This workshop will introduce participants to the nuts and bolts of WordPress, and will guide them through the creation of a basic blog using the WordPress content management system. Participants will set up a WordPress account and choose a theme, and then will learn to add and edit posts, add widgets and plugins, import images, and use basic HTML commands to customize the blog’s appearance.
The second part of the workshop will focus on writing for the web and leveraging social media to promote your blog. Participants will be led through the process of setting up an RSS feed and coordinating your blog’s content with sites such as Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a wireless-enabled laptop to the workshop. Feel free to contact the workshop instructor if you have any questions about the workshop content.
About the instructor: Dawn’s work has appeared in national publications including Yoga Journal, Parenting, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child, Adoptive Families, Salon and Bitch: A Feminist Response to Pop Culture. Currently she is working on a book about her daughter’s open adoption. She has been blogging at This Woman’s Work since 2001. Her blog has been featured in Time Magazine, the Washington Times, About.com’s Parenting section, About.com’s Adoption section, and the Adoptive Families magazine web site. She also blogs for Anti-Racist Parent and manages OpenAdoptionSupport.com. Dawn lives in Columbus Ohio with her husband and two children. She and her husband own Open Book Strategies, a web 2.0 marketing company. Dawn is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
