Location: Junctionview Studios (889 Williams Avenue, cbus 43212)
Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Workshop level: Intermediate
Instructor: Jonny Roller
Cost: $15
Workshop description: Ever wanted to “pop open the lid” of dynamically created websites? Have you found yourself wondering how the “Digg” button or Google Calendar works? Want to learn how to create custom applications connecting your cell phone to Twitter? Best of all, want an easy-to-learn gateway to physical computing? If you answered yes to any of these questions, our intrepid instructor Jonny Roller will show you how it’s done. All you need is a dash of HTML, a smidgen of Javascript, and a handful of open-source Javascript libraries. No expensive Flash development tools needed!
Workshop topics include:
- Using “class” and “id” HTML attributes to manipulate web sites
- Using prototype.js to access and manipulate elements on a webpage
- Using scriptaculous.js to add dynamic effects to a webpage
- Leveraging AJAX to make quick updates to web pages
We recommend that participants have some familiarity with HTML and other programming or scripting languages, but it is not required. Participants are also strongly encouraged to bring a wireless-enabled laptop.
If you have any questions prior to the workshop, please do not hesitate to email the instructor.
