Blogging 101 for creatives + entrepreneurs

Workshop description: This workshop will introduce you to the nuts and bolts of blogging and other online marketing strategies for creative professionals and entrepreneurs. Topics include:

  • History of blogs and blogging
  • Blogging terminology
  • Distributing your posts via RSS feeds
  • Finding other bloggers
  • Blogging etiquette
  • Finding blog topics to write about

This workshop will also include a hands-on component in which participants will be led through the process of setting up a blog on Wordpress. Participants are strongly encouraged (but are not required) to bring a wireless-enabled laptop.

About the instructor: Dawn’s work has appeared in national publications including Yoga Journal, Parenting, Utne, Wondertime, Brain Child, Adoptive Families, Salon and Bitch: A Feminist Response to Pop Culture. Currently she is working on a book about her daughter’s open adoption. She has been blogging at This Woman’s Work since 2001. Her blog has been featured in Time Magazine, the Washington Times, About.com’s Parenting section, About.com’s Adoption section, and the Adoptive Families magazine web site. She also blogs for Anti-Racist Parent and manages OpenAdoptionSupport.com. Dawn lives in Columbus Ohio with her husband and two children. She and her husband own Open Book Strategies, a web 2.0 marketing company. Dawn is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
